About Metro Ministries

The Ark and Metro

The Ark currently have two of our youth serving with Metro Ministries; Nati Smith and James Harper, Nati is working in New York for three years and James has been in NY until July 2009 as an 'intern' - He has now been approved to return for a full time ministry... both have a heart for the lost and lonely children they minister to daily. Please keep them in your prayers, they live and work in volatile areas where gangs and drug dealers live and operate, they walk by faith and trust in God..

Who We Are

Metro Ministries is a Christian, non-profit organization dedicated to serving inner city children throughout the five boroughs of New York City and in various urban centers around the world. The organization was established in 1980 and has been serving low-income, inner city children and their families for more than a quarter of a century.

Our Mission To Help Hurting Children

Our mission is to find and rescue inner city children in urban environments often plagued by poverty, violence, drugs, crime, and hopelessness. We offer programs designed to prevent children who are growing up in unfavorable settings from becoming mere products of their environments.

What We Do

We seek to bring hope to urban children through faith based and character education while addressing issues such as hunger, AIDS awareness, and child abuse.

Metro Ministries is currently the world's largest Sunday School serving over 42,000 children with Sunday School services, child sponsorship, special programs, and personal home visits on a weekly basis.

Due to the success of Metro’s programs, President George Bush, Sr. appointed the organization’s founder, Pastor Bill Wilson, to serve on the National Commission on America’s Urban Families in 1991. Metro’s influence was also identified as a factor in the noticeable reduction of crime in the Bushwick community and the organization was featured on ABC’s NIGHTLINE currently hosted by Ted Koppel in 1997.

Where We Work

Headquartered in the heart of the inner city in Brooklyn, NY.  We currently operate programs for urban children at over 200 sites in New York City, as well as in the Philippines, Romania, and South Africa.
